The following describes how you can construct a ridge apex end from a ridge and standard flat tile.
- Measure 140mm along the top of a ridge tile, and mark lines from that point, back to the corners on either side of the ridge title. These are guidelines for your cuts.
- Following your guidelines, cut the ridge tile with a standard hand saw, and remove the unwatnted piece of tile.
- A cut triangular section of a flat tile will be used to close the ridge apex end. To determine the shape required, press the ridge tile down until it splays to the correct angle. With a straight edge running from corner to corner, measure down from the centre of the ridge title to the middle of the straight edge. This measurement (a) will be used for the height of the triangular section.
- Mark half way across the bottom of a flat tile (145mm), and then measure perpendicular from the mark to the distance previously measured (a).
- Draw a guideline from the mark to each corner, and cut the triangle out with your handsaw.
- Turn the tiles over, and position the end triangle to the ridge, setting in place with use of duct tape.
- Flip the constructed ridge apex over, and apply a suitable sealant/adhesive along the joint to create a watertight seal.
